At Upshift, your goals come first – our Upshifters are students, moms, entrepreneurs, and others who want to supplement their income without sacrificing their freedom and other responsibilities.
How to become an Upshifter and start picking up shifts?
Once you’re on the Upshifter program, it takes a few simple steps. However, we have a strict selection process that includes an online personality assessment and an in-person meeting before you can get started.
1. Fill out the application form and assessment
First, complete the personality assessment. Only 12% of applicants to Upshift are granted approval to become Upshifters. Congratulations if you do pass! We’ll invite you to our Atlanta office for an orientation/onboarding if you pass the assessment. Once you have completed the assessment, you’ll be able access our mobile app to view all available shifts in Pittsburgh.
2. Open the app and start picking up shifts
You can choose your shifts according to your interests, schedule, and skills. We can help you find an full-time, “Upshift to Hire” job or a flexible part-time job – depending on what you’re looking for. Once you have been accepted, confirm your shift and it will be yours. You can clock in and out using the mobile app. You can review the company as well as the company’s reviews. Good reviews can help you get more work and a better pay.
3. Create your profile
As you get experience with the app as well as reviews from businesses you work for, you will have more opportunities.
4. Get Paid
Each Friday, you’ll receive a direct payment to your bank account or cash credit for the previous week. Daily payments are also available if you meet specific criteria.

Frequently Asked Questions
The personality test can be completed online in less than 10 minutes. If you pass the assessment, we will let you know within 72-hours. We have a waitlist in many places so there may be delays in receiving an invitation to board.
The process of onboarding can take between 30-45 minutes. We will require you to fill out all tax and employment paperwork and take a brief orientation before you can become an Upshifter. All Upshifters are e-verified, so make sure you bring your valid ID. A list of valid ID can be found here: https://upshift.work/i9
After their first paycheck, all Upshifters can enroll in vision, health, and dental benefits. After receiving two paychecks from Upshift, you can apply for Earnin to get same-day/early pay.
Upshift is used by many businesses. We conduct background checks on Upshifters before they can work for us.
