I enjoy trying different kinds of shifts and being able to make my own schedule!

Why did you start working for Upshift?

I first heard about Upshift a few years ago from someone I was working with but didn’t sign up at the time. A few months ago, I was leaving my job and heard about it from another friend. I was so thankful he reminded me of it because I actually wanted to sign up a couple of years ago. I joined Upshift right after this and have been working shifts ever since. The fact that I could make my own schedule was really empowering because I controlled my own destiny. I was used to jobs where your life was scheduled around work but Upshift allowed me to schedule work around my life!

What do you do outside of work?

I cut hair on the side and have been doing that since after I graduated high school. I’m really interested in real estate and own some property which I rent out. Outside of work, I’m a musician who plays guitar and piano. I mostly play guitar and am actually the lead guitarist of our band. Recently, I got really into skating so I spend a lot of time doing that. I didn’t do it much as a kid but got into it about a year and a half ago after someone invited me to an event called Icy Hot which is a huge national skating event in Columbus. After that, I was hooked and got really into it!

What has been your favorite company to work with?

I started out working shifts at the Columbus Museum of Art which was really cool. Since then, I found the shifts at OSU which is where I work most of the time. I’ve been working at Mirror Lake and Marketplace on Neil a lot. I’ve worked at almost all the kitchens at OSU except for one. I’ve gotten to know everyone there and even got a shirt from them. It’s really a great place to work and I recommend that everyone check out their shifts!

By working so many unique shifts, I have finally found out what I enjoy doing for work!

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?

The first thing I would say is don’t be afraid to pick up a shift. I’ve only worked traditional jobs so this was a new experience for me. You have to go for it and not be afraid to try new things. These shifts aren’t permanent so if you find that a shift isn’t for you then you can try something else for your next shift. However, you won’t know whether you like something until you try it. If you take the initiative to check out new shifts, you’ll find something you enjoy just like I did!
