Due to how big the campus is, there are a bunch of different dining halls, positions and schedules to choose from.

Why did you start working for Upshift?

I heard about Upshift 3.5-4 years ago. At the time, I was looking to work at this Chinese New Year festival that was coming to town. The festival was posting shifts on Upshift so I decided to sign up. I started by working that event but have worked a ton of other shifts since then.

What do you do outside of Upshift?

When I’m not working, I love to ride my bike and crochet. I enjoy riding my bike on trails or in the city. It’s actually what I use to get to work. I also love to crochet in my free time. I learned to do it when I was a kid and got better over time. I crochet all kinds of clothing like hats, scarves and gloves. I’ve also crocheted different types of animals. Recently, I crocheted a sloth which took me about a week but it turned out better than expected. .

“Once you find places that you love working at, you can continue to go back there like I have.”

Do you have any advice for new Upshifters?

I would suggest becoming very familiar with how the app works including how to apply to shifts, how to confirm shifts etc. I would also focus on finding shifts that you like to work when you first sign up. This seems really simple but has been important for me. Once you find places that you love working at, you can continue to go back there like I have.

What have been your favorite shifts so far?

Right now, I’m mostly working food service shifts at universities in Columbus, such as Capital University. Due to how big the campus is there are a bunch of different dining halls, positions and schedules to choose from. Being able to work at the same place but have that type of flexibility and variety is hard to beat.
