Upshifter of the Month: Sam J, Chase B. and Enrique H.

We are proud to announce that our Upshifter of the Month for May has been won by three Upshifters for the first time ever!

Sam J, Enrique H. and Chase B. have been the three musketeers of Upshift, working a number of shifts together. All three are members of Xavier University’s swim team and use Upshift to monetize the time that they don’t spend in the pool or studying. We asked all three a few questions about how they use Upshift and find it.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Sam J: Well I’m originally from Minnesota and moved to Cincinnati in order to swim and study at Xavier University. I really like it here and I am studying IT systems with a goal of going into cybersecurity!

Chase B: I’m from Richmond Kentucky and moved here to swim at Xavier where we won Big East Champs in my first year! I’m a sophomore studying Marketing and hope to dive into the agency world after university.

Enrique H: I’m from Michigan originally and moved here to swim and study at Xavier with a major in Computer Science and minors in Electronic Engineering and Math.

How have you guys liked Upshift so far?

Sam J: It has been great because we get to choose when to work and can fit it around our practice schedule! There are not many work options open to NCAA athletes because of our crazy availability but with Upshift we’ve been able to make it work.

Chase B: It has really been an amazing experience for me and my teammates. With our schedules it’s virtually impossible for us to have any type of a job between classes, studying for exams, practices 2 to even 3 times a day and traveling for meets, Let alone having a social life but Upshift give us the flexibility to work within our hectic lives… And in college a little extra cash can go a long way.

Enrique H: I really enjoy the flexibility of it but also the opportunity to work in different industries. I had never worked in catering or warehouses before Upshift and each shift is almost like an episode of that Discovery Channel Show, How It’s Made, in that I get to learn more about how different industries work behind the scenes.

What has been your favorite shift?

Sam J: Well my favorite has been with a banquet hall called Savannah Center. I hadn’t done catering before but they were really friendly and showed me the ropes. The event was pretty cool and I got a free gourmet meal on my break so no complaints here!

Chase B: My favorite event was definitely at Riverbend. I got to see one of my favorite bands in concert while being paid for it. Usually I pay for concerts but this is the first time I’ve been paid to see one! Definitely recommend.

Enrique H: My favorite shift was at Aero Fulfillment. The work was easy and for a pretty solid hourly rate. Our co-workers were really cool, the management was chill and the job was one of those where your day goes quickly because you’re staying busy.
